Piccolo Mondo – March Store of the Month

Blue Orange Games is lucky to partner with a fantastic bunch of retailers who are passionate about their businesses and supportive of our games. We want to do more to recognize the stores and individuals that make our mission possible. That’s how our new monthly spotlight on an outstanding Blue Orange Games retailer came about!

We are pleased to announce that Piccolo Mondo Toys in Portland, Oregon is our Store of the Month for March! Xavier, a member of our sales team, nominated the store because of their passion for our product and their dedication to their local community.

Piccolo Mondo is a small chain of toy stores with two locations in the Portland Oregon area. Owners, Michelle and Merrick Smith opened the first location in 2006 . And opened their second location in Beaverton in 2011

‘Piccolo Mondo’  means “Small World” in Italian. And Michelle and her staff really take that phrase to heart, focusing their business on children and community. They have frequent events in the store, such as story telling, guest speakers, and play days. They’ve had Mike Reiss (producer and writer of the Simposons) come in and talk about his children’s book King Snozzle of Snozz. As well as play days dedicated to Blue Orange Games like Pengoloo and Spot it!

But my favorite event they ran last year was a promotion that benefited local schools. The promotion ran “Show your support for your child’s school when you shop at Piccolo Mondo Toys from Monday, November 11th – Thursday, November 14th. Just mention the name of the participating school and 15% of your sale will be donated to your school.”

Unlike some of their larger competitors, Piccolo Mondo does not carry modern video games or Bratz dolls opting instead for board games, puzzles and toys that help stir children’s imaginations.

Parents who shop at Piccolo Mondo are sure to recognize games from their childhood alongside many new modern classics. And Michelle makes a point of attending the big Toy Fair in New York every year so she can stay up to date on all the newest trends in toys.

Plus, their complimentary gift wrap is super cute:

The whole team at Blue Orange Games would like to thank Michelle and the rest of the Piccolo Mondo Toys staff for believing in our games and for creating rewarding, educational experiences for their community. Congrats!
